One decision can mean an opportunity for an investor, a concession for a founder, or next month's livelihood for an employee. The same event carries a different weight depending on where you stand.
The Reference Project begins with a question: if we could experience another set of circumstances, could our understanding of each other reach beyond our own background, experience, and beliefs?

Reading someone's story is not the same as living with their choices.
When the time, money, and ways out are yours, what would you decide? What if those conditions changed?
Through the Life Archive System, Muyan Labs seeks to let people enter different lives, make choices, and experience what follows. These experiences leave specific records: which opportunities were available, who set the terms, and what happened as a result of a decision.
Looking only at the ending, it is easy to credit success to foresight and failure to mistakes. Keeping the whole story lets us see luck, constraints, and the choices a person once had and later lost.
The purpose of the archives
Who could learn
from one life?
For an individual, it could offer a reference for understanding a path they never took.
For an organisation, it could let the people who make rules see what those rules mean in someone's life.
In the longer term, we hope our collective decisions can draw on a wider range of lived circumstances, not just the few success stories told again and again.
This takes time, and it takes disagreement. What works in one situation may not work for another person, or in another era.
